What are the Menehune?
In Hawaiian culture, the Menehune are mythical dwarf-like beings known for their remarkable craftsmanship and magical abilities. According to legend, these elusive creatures are skilled builders and artisans who live in the remote, dense forests and hidden valleys of Hawaii. The Menehune are said to be industrious and capable of completing large-scale projects, such as constructing temples, fishponds, and stone walls, overnight.
Traditionally, Menehune are depicted as small, around two to three feet tall, with a playful yet secretive nature. They are often associated with folklore and local myths, where their presence is considered both a sign of good fortune and a reminder of the supernatural elements in Hawaiian heritage. Their stories are integral to Hawaiian cultural narratives, reflecting themes of respect for the unknown and the blend of natural and mystical worlds.
The Menehune are hidden all around the Aulani resort. Make sure you look for them on your next visit!
